Luxury coach slab rates
This is the one class in Chennai commonly quoted in time-and-distance slabs rather than a single package, because a Volvo is often hired for a defined window — an airport arrival, a half-day conference shuttle, a wedding evening. The basis is unchanged: bus, fuel, driver and insurance in; tolls, parking, bata, permits and 5% GST out.

When a Volvo is worth ₹25 a kilometre more, and when it is not
The honest version: for about half the enquiries we get for a Volvo, an AC 2+2 tourist coach at ₹62 – ₹70 per kilometre would do the same job and save the client ₹10,000 on the day. We say so, and we lose some of those bookings to our own cheaper vehicle.
Worth it: Bengaluru and back on NH48; the Kodaikanal or Ooty ghats; an overnight run where people try to sleep in the seat; a client, investor or board movement where the bus is part of the impression; a wedding party of out-of-town guests who have already flown that morning; any journey over five hours with a group whose average age is over fifty.
Not worth it: a Mahabalipuram day trip on ECR; a hotel-to-mandapam shuttle running a four-kilometre loop; a conference transfer inside the city; a factory shift route. On short, slow, stop-heavy work the air suspension never gets a chance to earn its keep, and you are paying a premium for a vehicle that spends the day at 30 km/h.
The rule we use internally: if the longest single leg is under ninety minutes, do not spend the money.
What is actually in the class
Volvo multi-axle — the B9R and B11R bodies, 41 to 49 seats, the vehicles most people mean when they say "Volvo". Air suspension, wide reclining 2+2, sealed cabin, luggage bay under the floor, charging points at the seats.
BharatBenz coaches sit alongside them at similar money and, on Tamil Nadu's surfaces, ride very nearly as well. On any given date availability rather than badge preference decides which one we can hold for you, and we tell you which it is in writing.
Mercedes-Benz bodies appear at the top of the Chennai market in smaller numbers and are usually booked for corporate and high-end wedding movements.
Two things matter more than the badge. The first is the age of the specific bus — a five-year-old Volvo and a one-year-old BharatBenz are not the same product, and we will tell you the year. The second is the driver: multi-axle coaches on ghat roads need someone who has driven that road in that vehicle, and we roster for it rather than assigning whoever is free.
Where Chennai's luxury coaches go
Bengaluru (NH48 via Vellore and Krishnagiri). The defining luxury-coach route from Chennai — a two-day, one-night corporate or wedding movement at ₹58,000 – ₹88,000 all-in on a 45-seat AC coach, with the Karnataka border cost decided entirely by permit class. We put AITP vehicles on it; a state-permit coach adds ₹15,000 – ₹35,000 per entry.
Kodaikanal and Ooty. Three days and two nights minimum, ₹78,000 – ₹1,10,000 and ₹85,000 – ₹1,20,000 respectively for a 45-seat AC coach, plus the ₹1,500 – ₹2,500 hill surcharge. This is where air suspension stops being a luxury.
Tirupati. Corporate and family groups who want the darshan day to be restful rather than survived. ₹26,000 – ₹36,000 in an AC coach; a Volvo on the same run prices against the ₹24,000 250 km slab plus bata and GST.
Airport movements, 17 seats and up. Visiting delegations, audit teams, film units and sports squads. Flight tracking, a named driver and a meeting point agreed in writing. Smaller parties are a car-rental job and belong with our sister brand.

How many seats does a Volvo coach have?
41, 45 or 49 in 2+2 wide pushback, depending on the body. There is no 55-seat Volvo — 55 seats exist only in 3+2 non-AC. If your group is 50 to 55 and wants this class, the answer is a 49-seater plus a smaller vehicle, or two coaches.
